Talking on the phone is boring. Do this instead to connect with a friend or family member
The onslaught of social media and advanced technologies has made is so much easier to connect with someone—at a distance. It seems the more options there are for us to connect with one another creates greater separation between us.
Relationships can only be forged so far and grow to a certain degree when relying on phone or social media contact alone. The strength of relationships is built when you can be shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand during seasons of life when it matters most to you. Where there is trust, dependability, and shared experiences between people, connections happen. Communication can be improved.
You may be wondering, what does any of this have to do with communication? All of it has to do with communication. When we are unsure of another person’s motives toward us, it affects our communication with them. When we cannot depend on someone, it affects our communication with them. When we do not trust another person, it affects our communication with them.
Think about a person that you trust. Now, think about a person you do not trust. How does your communication with them differ? What will you discuss with one and not the other? See the difference.
Here’s an idea: instead of making a call, sending a text, or sliding in the DMs, try meeting up in person. Pick an activity or a hobby to do with a friend or a family member. Get out of the house and get off social media. I bet your relationship and communication will improve.
